Wozniacki outlasts Sharapova, in US Open quarters

Caroline Wozniacki, of Denmark, reacts after defeating …
Caroline Wozniacki trusts her stamina so much that she plans to return to New York in two months to run a marathon.
Maria Sharapova, usually the one wearing down opponents in the third set, sure couldn't keep up on a steamy Sunday at the U.S. Open. Wozniacki won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in 2 hours, 37 minutes to get back to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in more than two years — and get back in the headlines for reasons other than her personal life.
"The season for me has been a little bit up and down," she said in quite an understatement, "and it's so nice to kind of start feeling like I'm playing the way I want to."
Because of the heat, the players received a 10-minute break before the final set; Sharapova returned to the court late, arguing with the chair umpire after receiving a time violation warning. Perhaps sensing that she was fresher than the five-time major champion, Wozniacki later complained that Sharapova was dawdling between points.

Details emerge on Dwyane Wade's wedding

Details emerge on Dwyane Wade's wedding
With guests on lock down and fans hoping for news, details have emerged about Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union's wedding, aka The Wade Union.
Details about The Wade Union have finally emerged.  "A source" has informed Gossip Extra that the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union have spent $5 million on their elaborate wedding weekend. The theme is Old-Florida and along with all the Miami Heat guests in attendance there will be multiple Heat references in the decor.

According to the report, guests were to meet at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach at 3pm but had no idea where they would be going.  Fancy buses would pick them up and take them to a $13 million mansion in the rural Redlands, difficult to access by car and surrounded by a moat, at a venue called the Chateau Artisan.  At exactly 6:30pm, the bride and groom were scheduled to fly in from Wade’s home in Miami Beach and the ceremony is to take place in one of the two gazebos that extend out into the water.

The themed bars will include signs like "The Battier Bar" for Shane Battier, "Bar Melo" as in Carmelo Anthony, "Bosh’s Brewery" for Chris Bosh and "Ray’s Retirement Home" for Ray Allen. Lastly, "Cleveland, This Way" will be hanging for you know who (and company.)

The Pro Bowler had appealed the ruling and met with league officials in New York on Aug. 4.Gordon's suspension is effective immediately and the league said in its statement that his ''eligibility for reinstatement will be determined following the 2014 season.'' In the meantime, Gordon is not allowed to practice with the team, attend meetings or other club functions.

Landon Donovan to play final USMNT match in October friendly

Landon Donovan to play final USMNT match in October friendly
Landon Donovan will get to say goodbye. And so will the fans.
Landon Donovan will make one last appearance for the United States. The 32-year-old, who announced that he would retire from the sport after the MLS season, will play for the Stars and Stripes on October 10 against Ecuador in a final farewell for the country's all-time leading scorer and assist man.
The match, at Rentschler Field in Hartford, CT, will be the Americans' first home match since the World Cup and first home match since Donovan said he would be calling it quits. That the contest is right down the street from ESPN's Bristol headquarters is probably not a coincidence either, as the Worldwide Leader will get to televise Donovan's going away party with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves.

Kobe Bryant Thinks LeBron James Is Worth $75 Million, Defends His Monster Contract

kobe bryant grinds teeth
Last December, Kobe Bryant went down with a season-ending injury shortly after signing a $48-million contract extension that will make him the highest-paid NBA player until 2016.
Some criticized Kobe for not taking a larger pay cut at a point in his career when his skills are diminishing.
In an SI cover story by Chris Ballard, one anonymous GM said Kobe had "zero" trade value because of his salary.
According to Ballard, Kobe had ideological reasons for taking his extension. He believes star players are underpaid because of the league's strict maximum contract rules, and he signed his deal as a show of defiance.

Tiger Woods Cuts Ties With The Coach Who Radically Changed His Swing

tiger woods sean foley
Tiger Woods and his swing coach Sean Foley have parted ways.
Foley is the guy behind the revamped swing that has become the subject of rampant debate in the golf world. He has worked with Tiger since 2010 — a tumultuous period in which Tiger missed a bunch of time due to injury, fell to 58th in the world, and then returned to No. 1 before his most recent string of injuries.
He won nine tournaments during that time, but no majors.
Tiger thanked Foley in a statement, saying, "Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him."

It was just a rough night . Our +GoDaddy car just wasn’t that good from the beginning, and that kind of put us behind. The guys kept working on it with their adjustments, and they got it headed in the right direction, but it was just too late by that point. I think we all just did the best we could to hang in there, make the car better and try to make a good night out of it. It wasn’t the finish that we wanted, but we didn’t give up. http://bit.ly/1wom6Pm  #NASCAR

Mahan comes up with timely victory at The Barclays
About the only thing that went wrong for Hunter Mahan at The Barclays was when the trophy broke. All he had to show for perhaps the biggest win of his career was a large wreath of roses.
''Am I supposed to put this on, Kentucky Derby style?'' he said.
That would have been fitting. The closing stretch was exactly what he needed Sunday
