Butler coach's clever response to Obama bracket diss

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Butler Practice
Hours after President Obama filled out a bracket predicting 11th-seeded Texas would topple sixth-seeded Butler in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, first-year Bulldogs coach Chris Holtmann fired back with a clever quip of his own.
"I notice not many people are picking us, including our President," Holtmann told reporters Wednesday. "So that's going to be the last time I vote for him."
Holtmann is correct though that Butler is not getting much respect at all in the buildup to Thursday's game. Las Vegas oddsmakers have anointed Texas the slim favorite even though it's the lower seed and Yahoo users have made Texas the most popular choice among the No. 11 seeds to win their opening-round game.

Premier Boxing on NBC is a mixed bag, but overall debut is a disappointment

Thurman, Broner win in debut of NBC prime-time boxing
LAS VEGAS -- Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero delivered a sensational battle Saturday in the main event of the heavily hyped debut of the Premier Boxing Champions series on NBC. It was a fight worthy of the first match on primetime in 30 years on the network, since the night in Reno in 1985 when Larry Holmes successfully defended the heavyweight title against Carl "The Truth" Williams.
Thurman, in particular, was outstanding as he successfully defended his WBA interim welterweight title with a one-sided decision over Guerrero.
But the quality of the NBC broadcast failed to live up to the quality of the action in the ring.
For starters, there were far, far, far too many voices, and it never allowed veteran play-by-play man Marv Albert to get into a groove. Albert had to share the microphone with host Al Michaels, analyst Sugar Ray Leonard and roving reporters Laila Ali, B.J. Flores and Kenny Rice.
Albert was solid and with a little more room could have been outstanding. But he was playing traffic cop much of the night, throwing it to Ali, Flores and Rice constantly, it seemed, and thus never getting into a rhythm. There was far too little news or information of consequence being delivered by the roving reporters and there thus wasn't nearly as much of a need to go to them as often as they did.

Patrick Maroon turtles in fight with Zack Kassian

NHL: Anaheim Ducks at Vancouver Canucks
When you pick a fight with someone who is big, strong and well … Zack Kassian of Vancouver, and you’re getting beat up, there is but one logical choice. Turtle!
Check out this ‘fight’ Vine between Anaheim’s Patrick Maroon and Kassian in Monday's game between the Ducks and Canucks. It's a little short and disjointed, but you get the point.
In spite of the internet snark that has been tossed Maroon’s way since this play, I laud him for realizing the damage of fighting Kassian would be far worse than the shame of a turtle.
Kassian got two minutes for roughing, Maroon got a rough and a trip of Henrik Sedin. But at least he didn’t get his brains bashed in.

Giancarlo Stanton not flinching from task of resurrecting Marlins

Giancarlo Stanton walks to the dugout after striking out on Tuesday. (USAT)
JUPITER, Fla. – The whole idea is to bury the doubt. Or face it. One of the two. Really it was up to Giancarlo Stanton. Bottom line, a man can’t flinch. No matter how bad his head says, “Run! Duck! Get out! Don’t be a fool!”Flinch once, he’d invite a lifetime of abuse. Flinch once and they’d win, maybe forever. They’d bring the fearless fastballs. They’d start the curveballs ear-high. It’s no way to spend a career, a life – not trusting them, not trusting yourself.

Stanton took a breath, willed himself to stand in there and, yes, in spite of hard memories and jellied legs and a good amount of spilled blood, survived those contract negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

Saints TE Jimmy Graham reportedly traded to Seattle

Jimmy Graham is reportedly on his way out of New Orleans.
According to Fox’s Jay Glazer and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the tight end is headed to the defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks along with a fourth-round pick in exchange for Pro Bowl center Max Unger and a first-round pick.
Graham has averaged nearly 90 receptions per season over the last four years and is a three-time All-Pro selection.
Graham, who caught 85 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, signed a four-year, $40 million deal with the Saints last July. He immediately becomes a premiere pass-catching option for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.
On the other side of the deal, the Saints bring in Unger, a two-time Pro Bowl selection who has started 67 games since being picked by the Seahawks out of Oregon in the second round of the 2009 draft.
Additionally, according to Rapoport, the Saints will receive the Seahawks first-round pick (No. 31 overall) in the upcoming draft.
